Direct load control

Direct load control is the control of a residential appliance by a power utility. For example, the remote turning off of water heater by the utility company when a sensor on the water heater has determined a certain interior tank tempature has been reached. Direct load control can be achived through the use of simple timers or sophisticated two-way communications systems.
